Get Hands-On In The Gardens - Learning And Teaching By Gardening

In 2023, on Thursdays at County Farm Park, Get Hands-on in the Garden! All green thumbs begin as brown thumbs who keep at it. Join Washtenaw Parks staff and learners with thumbs of every color to level-up your gardening skills in the best way possible: by actively gardening as part of a community of gardeners sharing their skills (and sometimes free flower divisions!). Your efforts provide critical improvements to a series of esteemed community gardens at County Farm Park, including the Geometry in Bloom Perennial Garden, the Sensory Garden, and the Memorial Garden, all located at County Farm Park. Bulldozing For The Bs (+Seed Collection)

Join a team "bulldozing" invasive shrubs to help the Bs—the Birds, Bees, and Butterflies, that is! You’ll use loppers and saws to clear the way for B habitat and get ideas for how to turn your own backyard into a B haven. Come for the nature, fresh air, and exercise in a friendly community setting—or just to demolish something for a good cause. Led by Matthew Bertrand, Volunteer Coordinator (also a landscape designer). Snacks, tools, and gloves provided (bring your own water bottle). Pending weather and seasonality, this activity may also include a seed collection component, harvesting native seeds for use on future restoration projects.
