  1. Household Hazardous Waste Collection

    September 15, 2018, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

    The Home Toxics Reduction Program provides Washtenaw County residents with a disposal option for flammable, poisonous, toxic and corrosive materials. Regular collection events are held the first three Saturdays of the month, April through November 9 a.m. to noon, except for holiday weekends. No appointment needed on Saturdays! If you can't make it to a Saturday collection, please call 734-222-3810 to schedule a weekday drop-off appointment. Please allow at least 48 business hours advance notice to schedule an appointment.

  1. Junior Naturalist: Michigan's Feathered Travelers

    Colder weather will soon be upon us and some of our feathered friends will be flying south for winter. We’ll discover which birds travel long distances to escape the cold, and which will hang around for the holidays. Independence Lake offers amazing birding opportunities to view waterfowl and other birds who prefer the cover of trees. Binoculars will be provided but feel free to bring your own. A bird field guide is suggested. Program led by Kelsey Dehring. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited – max 10 kids. For ages 7 - 12. Register online at (Registration #811004 A)

  2. Preserve Challenge: Weekend Adventures Sharon Short Hills

    September 15, 2018, 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM @ Sharon Short Hills Preserve

    We are half way through the Preserve Challenge - join us on a hike! This preserve features rolling hills and scenic vistas with a one-mile long loop trail. In addition, Sharon Short Hills Preserve reaches some of the highest elevations in the county. To inspire hiking and exploration of our natural areas, join Washtenaw County’s Preserve Challenge. Throughout September we will lead public hikes and share daily trail inspiration on Social Media in case you’d prefer to hike on your own time. Share your nature hike experience on social media or via email and you will be entered into weekly a prize drawing.
