    PRESERVE CHALLENGE Saturday, September 12th - Sunday, October 11 Various Parks and Preserves The Preserve Challenge is a four week virtual challenge encouraging people to get outside and explore. Join a staff-led event or explore on your own time. Participate by taking a photo or short video of your experience and posting it to social media with #ExploreWashtenaw. If you have a private social media account, email your photo to [email protected] By sharing your experience, you will be entered to win a prize for each week you participate.

  2. Fall Fireside Storytime

    September 25, 2020, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM @ Independence Lake County Park

    Gather at the Beach Center to hear The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child read by a professional story reader. Enjoy a campfire, s’more’s, boxed apple juice and popcorn while listening to the stories. Parks Naturalist Shawn Severance will lead a Gruffalo Hunt nature hike. Follow a brave little mouse on a hike to discover the houses of woodland creatures…can we find an underground house, a log pile house and a tree top house? Program fee is $5.00 per family/household, up to 4 members. Only one person is needed to register, as the fee is per family/household.   3. Prairie Botany Hike

    September 26, 2020, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ Blue Heron Bay

    Fall flowers are essential for pollinators and other wildlife. We will look at some of the field flowers and wetland flowers that can be found in this highly diverse native prairie, and perhaps learn a few grasses too. Please bring a hand lens if you have one. A plant list will be provided. Shawn Severance leads this walk. 10 people maximum. Please email [email protected] to register. Meet at the Blue Heron Bay Parking Lot.
