Multipurpose Building Draft Concept
Since summer, staff and a committee of Parks Commissioners have been working with an architecture firm, The Collaborative Inc., to design a new multipurpose building to support WCPARC programming and the Michigan Folk School (site partner) classes. The proposed building’s design respects the historic character of the site, taking subtle cues from existing building elements. Its location will take advantage of the park’s natural features and picturesque views.
The new building will provide three classrooms, one of which will accommodate a “teaching” kitchen to support classes such as cheesemaking and produce canning. The patio will be used for outdoor programs and events. Patrons visiting the park will have access to the building’s restrooms and pathways will link to the park’s historic area.
At the Parks Commission meeting on October 8, architects from The Collaborative presented the draft building concept. The design was well received, with support for the general location and overall look. Staff will be presenting the draft concept to the Superior Township Board for a courtesy review at their meeting on October 21. You are encouraged to attend to learn more and provide feedback on the building. Comments will be considered and integrated into the final design, as appropriate. It is anticipated that the final concept will be presented to the Parks Commission for approval at their meeting on November 12.
