Commissioner Morgan's Newsletter

Hello neighbor,

I am so proud to represent you as your Washtenaw County Commissioner, covering central and south-central Ann Arbor. We continue to face challenging times in Washtenaw County and we continue to push through as a community, working together. My top priority over the past year is to keep residents safe, healthy, and housed. Thanks to our dedicated county staff, I believe we’ve been able to fulfill this mission, with one of the highest vaccination rates in the State of Michigan.

Looking forward, I hope you’ll share input with me on what you think should be our top priorities as Washtenaw County. We are looking to address housing affordability and homelessness, encourage generational success, create a more sustainable community, support a strong local economy, and invest in our health and wellbeing, among other critically important items.

One area that I believe is particularly important is encouraging generational success, which means looking at how we can expand early childhood education and/or childcare access, invest in high-impact tutoring, create a childhood savings accounts program, or launch a financial empowerment center. I want to hear your thoughts though -- these are our community resources and we have the opportunity to build a better stronger, more resilient Washtenaw County, together. You can find out more, including how to provide input later in this newsletter.

Washtenaw County Rescue Plan Public Engagement Opportunity

The Commissioners and Washtenaw County staff have developed a list of potential programs, projects, and initiatives for their proposed Washtenaw County Rescue Plan. This plan will leverage multiple funding sources, most notably the American Rescue Plan Act, to ensure a more complete response to the impacts COVID-19 has had on our community. These potential projects have been categorized into 7 priority categories.
