Independence Lake County Park Beach Guidelines

ANN ARBOR, MI – The Independence Lake County Park beach, restrooms and outdoor pavilions will be opening on June 5, 2020 in alignment with Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s Executive Order [2020-110]. However, the playground, swings, climbing rock and boat rentals will remain closed. In an effort to support and ensure proper social distancing at the park and on the beach some additional guidelines will be implemented.

On June 5, staff at Independence Lake will begin monitoring attendance at the park and at the beach. The park will be operating at 60% capacity and will be making judgements based on the total number of cars entering the park. Patrons of the park on hot days may expect delays or denial of entry into the park. “We’re committed to opening the park and beach in a safe, and responsible way. The health and safety of our community and our staff is our top priority,” said Brian Machemer, Independence Lake County Park Superintendent.

Depending on when capacity is reached, the park and beach may reopen as patrons leave the park.

“Our staff is working hard to adapt to each new Executive Order, and provide our visitors with the best experience possible. We will continue to update our guidelines, policies and procedures in accordance with the orders as we receive them,” said Machemer.
