WASHTENAW COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

PUBLIC NOTICE – SEEKING CITIZEN VOLUNTEERS FOR THE 

ENVIRONMENTAL COUNCIL & ROADS FUNDING SUBCOMMITTEE


The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners is looking for citizens to volunteer for positions on the Environmental Council and Roads Funding Subcommittee. The Board of Commissioners will make these appointments at its upcoming session on August 7, 2019 at 6:45 p.m. in the Board Room, Administration Building, 220 North Main Street, Ann Arbor, Michigan. 


Individuals interested in applying should submit a letter of interest and resume, including a home address, to the Washtenaw County Clerk’s office, Attention: Appointments, P.O. Box 8645, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48107. Letters and resumes may also be submitted via email to p[email protected], via fax (734) 222-6528, or apply online at https://secure.ewashtenaw.org/bocdob/bocdob.do.


Those resumes received by AUGUST 6, 2019 will be submitted to the Board of Commissioners for its consideration on August 7, 2019. The appointments will become effective August 7, 2019. These appointments include:


-    Washtenaw County Environmental Council – The Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill three (3) positions: 1 representing Sustainable Energy Producers, 1 representing Youth, and 1 representing Labor, all for the terms expiring March 31, 2020, unless the Council is authorized to continue by the Board of Commissioners. The Board of Commissioners’ intent in establishing the Environmental Council is for the Council to: (a) Develop comprehensive, integrated environmental policies to recommend to the County Board of Commissioners, (b) Develop a proposal and timetable for the County’s development of a plan to reach net-zero (neutral) emissions by 2035, (c) If the proposal and timetable are approved by the BOC, the Council may, if tasked by the BOC, work with County Administration, consultants, and/or other appropriate County departments to develop the detailed plan for the County to achieve net-zero emissions, (d) Act in an advisory capacity, without regulatory or legislative authority, to County departments, committees, and the Board of Commissioners on environmental issues and (e) Act in an advisory capacity, with the County’s Office of Infrastructure Management’s Environmental Working Group, in the development and review of the “DRAFT Energy and Environmental Infrastructure Policy 2020-2023,” which is being drafted by OIM as part of its comprehensive restructuring. The Environmental Council shall be inclusive of, and open to, input and dialogue with the public, environmental researchers, and environmentally concerned community organizations, and will actively work to develop and maintain input and dialogue with the wider Washtenaw County community.


-    Washtenaw County Road Funding Subcommittee – The Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill one (1) position to represent Townships for the remainder of a term expiring December 31, 2020. The Roads Funding Subcommittee was created in June of 2014 to serve as an advisory committee to the Board of Commissioners Subcommittee to help evaluate immediate and long term road funding options.
