In early 2019, an impressive partnership was formed, bringing together the vision of the League of Women Voters, the voice of WEMU and valuable community collaboration from Washtenaw County Government. “Know Your County Government”, is an effort spearheaded by the League of Women Voters, and intended to educate the public about the basics of county government, the services provided, and how it affects them. The League has a regular bi-weekly 8-minute interview segment on WEMU called "In the Public Interest." As part of that series, the League and WEMU have asked Washtenaw County staff to participate in a set of interviews called "Know Your County Government" which will educate listeners about the basics of county government and the services it provides. The pre-recorded interviews will air at least once a month during the WEMU 89.1 FM Monday afternoon drive time show, "All Things Considered" and will be available on the WEMU website afterward.
"The participation of Washtenaw County staff in the WEMU series supports the League's mission to educate and inform voters," said Susan Wooley, Director of Communications for the League of Woman Voters--Ann Arbor Area. "County government often doesn't get as much media attention as city or state government, and this will help remedy that situation."
