‘Tis the Season to be Freezin’!
Winter is coming… and so is Washtenaw County Parks’ annual Winter Fun Fest! Celebrate the cold-weather season at parks and preserves throughout Washtenaw County. Whether you like warming up by a fireplace or tromping through freshly fallen snow, there is something for everyone to enjoy! All events and activities take place from January 26th through February 25th!
Roll into the New Year with some exciting winter activities at Rolling Hills Park! Chamberlin Mobile Petting Zoo will be back for this year’s Snow Much Fun! on January 26th. Or, snap a photo on a hunt for the elusive Rolling Hills Eddie the Yeti at the Hunt for the Yeti on February 10th.
Independence Lake County Park has some exciting activities planned this year. On February 2nd, come out and enjoy a Fireside Storytime, complete with a delicious cup of hot cocoa and story books galore! Visit the park on February 10th for a Walk and Snap Hike to learn how to take great winter photos. Or, try your hand (or pole!) at ice fishing at our Kid's Ice Fishing Clinic on February 2nd or the Annual Ice Fishing Derby on Saturday, February 9th.
For those visiting Ann Arbor, Nelson Meade County Farm Park will be hosting the 4th Annual Ice Carving Festival on February 9th, sponsored by Redwood Apartment Homes. Watch college teams compete to create beautiful works of art in the park! The adjacent Meri Lou Murray Recreation Center will be hosting the annual Daddy-Daughter Dance, February 16th. Dance the night away and create beautiful memories with the special little lady in your life.
Experience nature this season with naturalists-led programs. There are opportunities available for people of all ages. On February 7th, you can make a Valentine for a Squirrel at our Preschool Hike at Independence Lake County Park. Or, Explore the Draper-Houston Preserve on February 16th with our naturalists.
