This season's Poinsettia Sale fundraising goal is $1,000 (net) to assist in the purchase of new computer equipment for our Clubhouse. To best prepare members to return to work and school, we need to provide opportunities for them to use and become comfortable with computers, touchscreen devices, and the other technologies that are ubiquitous in our everyday lives.
Returning to work or school after a long absence due to mental illness is challenging enough. Our goal is to help our members be the best prepared candidates employers and schools see. It is difficult to go to school if you don't know how to use a computer or search the Internet. It is difficult to go to work if you don't know how to punch in on a touchscreen time clock or download your pay stub from the company online portal. Our members need to feel comfortable and confident accessing the services and opportunities that are necessary for full community participation.
With a generous gift from an anonymous donor, we have begun the process of modernizing our Clubhouse. We have moved from flip phones to smart phones for outreach and community activities, from a clunky manual cash register to an iPad-based Point of Sale system in our snack bar, and are about to update our landlines phones and intercom system to better mimic a real work place. With your support, our next step will be upgrading our work units from manual documentation of our work day to an electronic system that will be cleaner, leaner, and easier to update as well as providing our members with the experience of working with tools they are likely to encounter at work or school.
With your support, we can continue to prepare people with mental illness to rejoin the workforce, return to educational pursuits, and reintegrate back into their community.
Thank you so much for supporting our members and their recovery!
