DEADLINE EXTENDED - Seeking Volunteers for the Washtenaw County Environmental Council

WASHTENAW COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

PUBLIC NOTICE – SEEKING VOLUNTEERS FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL COUNCIL

The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners is looking to fill two (2) positions on the Washtenaw County Environmental Council. The Board of Commissioners will make this appointment at its upcoming session on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.

Those resumes received by Monday, March 18th, 2024, will be submitted to the Board of Commissioners for its consideration on April 3rd. The appointment will become effective immediately. Appointment information below:

  • Environmental Council– The Board of Commissioners is looking to fill two (2) positions as follows: one position representing Water Protection for a term expiring on December 31st, 2024, and one position representing Sustainable Energy Producers for a term expiring on December 31st, 2025. The Environmental Council's mission is to create a vibrant, sustainable, net-zero Washtenaw County through developing environmental policy and organizational recommendations for Washtenaw County government in order to achieve net-zero emissions for County operations by 2030; protect and improve the County's air, land, water, food network, and both mental and public health as related to the environment; and address and counter environmental and intergenerational injustice.
    • Council members are expected to attend monthly meetings, generally on fourth Tuesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. New appointees should plan to attend their first Council meeting on Tuesday, April 23rd. Three consecutive absences, or more than three in a twelve month period without reasonable excuse, is cause for recommending resignation.
    • The duties of Washtenaw County Environmental Council members include regular meeting attendance and contributing to the Council's duties to: develop comprehensive, integrated environmental policies to recommend to the Board of Commissioners; work collaboratively with other commissioners boards, councils and committees on environmental issues; and help conduct the work of the Environmental Council via committees and other contributions.
