As has become a tradition in Washtenaw County, a ceremony marking Peace Officer’s Memorial Day was held at the Washtenaw 100 Club Memorial Park today, Thursday, May 17th, 2018 at 10:00AM. The park is located on Michigan Avenue at Ballard Street in Ypsilanti.
Police Week is also a time for us to remember and honor Sheriff’s Office personnel who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving our community. The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office created a “Hall of Honor” which honors the memory of our four (4) fallen officers, Jerry Russo, Leo Borders, Frank Crampton, and Harold Ewald.
The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners has written a resolution proclaiming the week of May 13th, 2018 through May 19th, 2018 as Police and Corrections Officer Week, and May 15th, 2018 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day with deep appreciation and to honor all Police and Corrections Officers, past and present, who have served in Washtenaw County, and in memory of all Police and Correction Officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their community and protecting the residents of Washtenaw County.
