[ARCHIVED] Board of Commissioners Begin New Public Meeting Schedule for 2022; Launch Public Comment Portal

News Flashes

At their last meeting of 2021, the Board of Commissioners approved a resolution that creates a new meeting calendar for 2022. The new calendar aims to simplify the meeting schedule so that members of the public can more easily understand when certain items will be discussed and voted on. The new calendar for 2022 is:

Board of Commissioners Meetings
  • 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the Month
  • 7 PM @ 220 N Main St, Ann Arbor
  • The Board of Commissioners meeting is when Commissioners formally discuss and take action on policy largely related to the county budget, county services, county staff and other internal county matters.

Working Session Meetings
  • 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the Month
  • 5:30 PM @ 220 N Main St, Ann Arbor
  • The purpose of the Working Session shall be to permit in-depth, informal discussion of Commissioner concerns, Board goals, significant programmatic and financial issues, and conceptual and informational presentations by the County Administrator, advisory committees, and community partners.

The exceptions to this schedule are during the Board’s Summer Session (June-August) and the Winter Holiday (December), when meetings only occur on the First Wednesday of the Month. Also, Working Session only meets on the third Wednesday of January, as the first meeting day of the year – January 5th – is set aside for the Board of Commissioners meeting to discuss and approve rules for the upcoming year.

Due to recent changes in state laws made by the state legislature, the Board of Commissioners will be returning to in-person public meetings after over 20 months of remote meetings in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, members of the public will still be able to watch the meetings remotely on the Washtenaw County website and YouTube channel.

The County has also created a public comment portal on its website to allow members of the public to offer official comments to the Board if they do not feel comfortable attending the meetings in person. Public comments will be added to the Board of Commissioners' official record and meeting packet for the Board to review leading up to and during the meeting.

You can find shareable copies of the Board’s meeting calendar for 2022 here.
