Below are images from the press conference announcing the creation of the Conviction Integrity and Expungement Unit in the Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Members of the Board of Commissioners, Washtenaw County Administration, the Washtenaw County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, and the National Organization of Exonerees took turns talking about impact of this new unit.
Prosecutor Eli Savit explained the role of the unit moving forward, "On the Conviction Integrity side, we will investigate claims of innocence. And when those are substantiated, we will act swiftly to remedy them. But just as the Conviction Integrity side can help remedy and prevent the worst mistake we (the government) can make, the expungement side of things help people move beyond the mistakes they might have made, years and decades in the past."
