Annual Parkridge Summer Festival and Joe Dulin Community Day Resumes In-Person to Celebrate Local Music and Community Resources on August 28

 

August 11, 2021 -- The Annual Parkridge Summer Festival and Joe Dulin Community Day takes place Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Parkridge Park in Ypsilanti, offering a mix of entertainment and community resources for local families.  The free event is a partnership between the Parkridge Summer Festival Committee and Washtenaw County Office of Community and Economic Development (OCED).  The event is schedule from 11am to 6pm, with the resource tent open from 12 to 2:30 p.m.

"This annual event is always a highly anticipated opportunity for our SummerFest Committee to provide a safe space for the community to join together in a festive atmosphere," said Washtenaw County Commissioner Ricky Jefferson. "We'll have, great entertainment, food and craft vendors, free resources for families to enjoy all afternoon."

Live music and entertainment during the event will include:

  • Anthony McKinney – 11:30am – 12:00pm
  • Funk Wagon – 2:00pm - 12:45pm
  • Elevate – 1:00pm - 1:45pm
  • Jamelski – 2:00pm - 2:15pm
  • Tiana Valenti – 2:15pm - 2:30pm
  • Kid Jay – 2:45pm – 3:00pm
  • Eddie Hughes – 3:30pm - 3:45pm
  • Kenyatta Rashon – 3:45pm – 4:30pm
  • Lady Sunshine and the X Band – 4:30pm – 6:00pm

The Joe Dulin Community Day is hosted annually to provide information about various resources available to Washtenaw County residents in a fun and friendly environment that encourages increased awareness and greater access to services.

The nonprofit resource tent will be open from 12pm to 2:30pm. More than 60 nonprofits, social service agencies, and community organizations will be onsite to provide information and resources to families.

Several of the nonprofits will provide free services, activities, and giveaways.

“This year, we are excited to be back in person for Joe Dulin Community Day," said Teresa Gillotti, Director of the Washtenaw County Office of Community and Economic Development.  "It's a great opportunity for families to get connected to community resources in the area.  We are all being extra cautious due to the pandemic, and in addition to our normal back to school and community resources, Corner Health Center will be providing vaccines, and the Washtenaw County Health Department will be giving out free at home COVID-19 test kits.

Other event highlights:

  • Corner Health Center will provide COVID-19 vaccinations for anyone 12 years of age or older
  • Free COVID-19 home test kits will be available, courtesy of the Washtenaw County Health Department 
  • Free bicycle tune-ups and repairs, courtesy of the Ypsilanti Bike Co-op, under the resource tent 
  • Free expungement assistance, courtesy of the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office
  • Free blood pressure and sugar checks, courtesy of Packard Health 
  • A number of games, giveaways, and fun activities for the whole family to enjoy

Hot dogs, chips, drink and dessert will be available for all who attend.  Grills, alcohol, and dogs are prohibited from the festival. 

The late Joe Dulin, was the founding principal of Ann Arbor's Roberto Clemente Student Development Center, serving students who struggled to be successful in traditional school environments. Mr. Dulin is also responsible for making National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID) a nationwide annual day.  We honor his commitment to the community with this annual event.
