CANCELLED - Pawpaw Pollinator Watch

Saturday, April 24, 2021

Calling all Citizen Scientists! The Pawpaws are about to expand their ruddy triangular blossoms and we want to learn more about who pollinates them. Volunteer to study Pawpaw flowering and fruiting patterns with Parks Naturalist Shawn Severance and Citizen Scientist Connie Barlow -- Detroit native, author of The Ghosts of Evolution and founder of the Torreya Guardians. Pawpaws are a delicious mystery. Sometimes they fruit in the wild and sometimes they don’t. Are their pollinators scarce, or is there some other factor such as genetic diversity or shade? In this hands-on program we will visit one of our largest PawPaw patches to learn about this ancient fruiting shrub and monitor visiting pollinators. We can accept 10 volunteers, please email [email protected] to register your interest for this program and Shawn will contact you with further information.
