    The peepers are peeping, and the toads are trilling. Go on an evening hike in beautiful oak woods dotted with vernal pools and bordered by marsh. We will learn about the different frog and toad species in Michigan, and practice identifying their calls. Program fee is $5.00 per family/household, up to 4 members per family/household.   4. CANCELLED - Pawpaw Pollinator Watch

    Calling all Citizen Scientists! The Pawpaws are about to expand their ruddy triangular blossoms and we want to learn more about who pollinates them. Volunteer to study Pawpaw flowering and fruiting patterns with Parks Naturalist Shawn Severance and Citizen Scientist Connie Barlow -- Detroit native, author of The Ghosts of Evolution and founder of the Torreya Guardians. Pawpaws are a delicious mystery. Sometimes they fruit in the wild and sometimes they don’t. Are their pollinators scarce, or is there some other factor such as genetic diversity or shade? In this hands-on program we will visit one of our largest PawPaw patches to learn about this ancient fruiting shrub and monitor visiting pollinators. We can accept 10 volunteers, please email [email protected] to register your interest for this program and Shawn will contact you with further information.

  5. Mindful Dexter: Frog Songs Hike

    Go on a quiet evening hike in beautiful oak woods dotted with vernal pools and filled with spring life. As we hike, we will pause to appreciate the trill of the toads, the peeping of peepers, and all the newness of spring. Co-led by Parks Naturalist Shawn Severance and Doreen Murasky of Mindful Dexter.     The Pre-Hospital Traumas Life Support (PHTLS) Initial Hybrid course is designed for healthcare providers who provide pre-hospital trauma care such as EMS or Fire or serve as an integral part of a hospital-based trauma care team. The focus of this program is to enhance and reinforce important concepts, including: Identifying the kinematics related to trauma and how they impact pre-hospital care Reinforce and enhance good trauma assessment skills Reinforce basic and advanced airway management skills How to appropriately assess patients with suspected multi-systems trauma including scene treatment, packaging, and transport Effective resuscitative team dynamics How to effectively extricate trauma victims from an automobile Reinforce and enhance skills relating to splinting, backboard, and packaging trauma victims Learn key concepts related to dealing with pediatric and geriatric victims

    PEPP represents a complete source of prehospital medical information for the emergency care of infants and children. Developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, PEPP is an exciting curriculum designed to teach prehospital professionals how to better assess, and manage ill or injured children. PEPP is a very comprehensive, innovative, and highly visual course featuring case-based lectures, live-action video, hands-on skills stations, and small group scenarios. The PEPP Course is available as a hybrid course for both BLS and ALS: The hybrid course is a combination of online learning, followed by hands-on practice in the classroom. Instead of attending a 2-day traditional onsite course, students learn a portion of the course through self-directed online modules. After completing all of the online modules, students then attend a 1-day onsite course for completion of hands-on practice, as well as instructor interaction and the final examination.
