This organization's membership consists of Congressional Chartered Posts, Detachments, and Chapters within Washtenaw County. In 1948, a group of far-sighted citizens interested in the welfare of veterans and their dependents, recognized the need for a one-stop center where veterans and dependents or survivors might be assisted with all problems. Many of the persons active in this effort were drawing on their own experiences following World War I.
To them it was obvious that the real problems would develop many years after the veterans returned. Following months of conferences and surveys, a meeting was called for long-range planning. Representatives from each veteran organization in Washtenaw County were invited... thus the birth of the Washtenaw County Council of Veterans (WCCV).
