About the Director
Robert Domeier (Dr. Bob) has worked as an Emergency Physician at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital since 1987 and is part of the faculty of the SJMH / UMMC Emergency Medicine Residency Program. He has served as the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Medical Director for the Washtenaw / Livingston Medical Control Authority since 1999. He is an Assistant Fellowship Director for the EMS Fellowship at Wayne State University School of Medicine.
Projects & Initiatives
Dr. Domeier is active in regional EMS initiatives chairing the Region 2 South Healthcare Coalition planning board and the Region 2 South Trauma Network. He provides medical oversight for critical care transport units for Huron Valley Ambulance and Livingston County EMS and is the Medical Director for HVA’s Educational division providing initial education for EMS providers.
Research
Dr. Domeier also has an active interest in EMS research which began with projects looking at ways to improve EMS care in his local system. His research interests have included critical care transport, EMS spine injury assessment, EMS trauma care, emergency airway management, CPR techniques and genetic and social factors contributing to the development of chronic pain syndromes.
About the Associate Director
Dr. Graham Smith is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Michigan. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Michigan, obtaining a degree in History and Classical Studies. Dr. Smith then worked as an EMT and Paramedic while also teaching in the community through the American Red Cross. These experiences developed his interest and commitment to Emergency Medicine and pre-hospital care.
He attended medical school at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and then returned to the University of Michigan for Residency. After Residency, Dr. Smith completed a Fellowship in Emergency Medical Services at the University of New Mexico. In August of 2018, he joined the Faculty at the University of Michigan Department of Emergency Medicine to continue pursuing his interests related to the field of EMS.
Dr. Smith is involved with the Washtenaw/Livingston Medical Control Authority and he looks forward to ongoing collaborations with both his Emergency Medicine colleagues in the hospital and EMS colleagues in the field.
Dr. Smith is double board certified in Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services.
