Title: Seasonal Historical Interpretive Assistant

Location: Parker Mill County Park, 4650 Geddes Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48105 

Date: 7/23/2019 Status: Parks Seasonal (3-10 Months) Salary Range: $13.00-16.00

Job Description: Under the supervision of a higher classified employee, the Seasonal Interpretive Assistant will work with staff to provide mill tours and other interpretive programs at Parker Mill County Park located at 4650 Geddes Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48105. Duties will focus on the interpretation of the historical and cultural resources preserved at the mill during public events. A brief history and description of Parker Mill is included at the end of this announcement.

The Seasonal Interpretive Assistant schedule at Parker Mill County Park is limited primarily to weekends, specifically Sundays, from September through October. There are other events in summer to gain additional hours, but those opportunities are highly limited.

This job will include interpreting Parker Mill to enrich visitors’ experience by helping them understand the significance of this mill to our local heritage. Duties will include: opening the mill, maintaining a welcoming environment for visitors, and reporting records of attendance. The Assistant might be requested to perform job-related duties other than those outlined above.

Experience: Previous experience in providing interpretive programming. Formal interpretive training is preferred, through either an academic program or recognized interpretative or historical organization. Successful candidates will also display a dedicated interest in local history and heritage of our region. Preference will be given to individuals interested in a long term commitment.

Applicants must be physically capable of assisting with the variety of tasks at the mill, including lifting bags of grain and sweeping to maintain a clean environment.
