Basketball House Rules

House rules for both organized and open basketball. Gym monitors will manage games according to these rules and when no gym monitor is available, if Rec Center staff is required to intervene, these are the rules that will be enforced.

Organized

  • Games are to 10 points - straight out, or 10 minutes whichever comes first.
  • The West court is the "winners" court. Winning teams move to that court and play.
  • The winning team may stay on and play a maximum of 3 games in a row (dependent upon night).
  • Call your own fouls and violations.
  • Disputes are settled by shooting the ball at the top of the key.
  • If there is a tie at end of regulation, team will shoot from top of key to decide winner.
  • Wristbands (numbered) will be given to the first 25 players

Open

  • Games are to 10 or 15 points - straight out. (depends on the amount of people in gymnasium)
  • Depending on the amount of people we have in the gymnasium, games may be reduced to half court.
  • Call your own fouls and violations.
  • Disputes are settled by shooting the ball at the top of the key.
    • If there is a tie at end of regulation, team will shoot from top of key to decide winner.
  • Wristbands may be given to patrons in order to control the number of patrons in gymnasium.
