Cold Fun
Imagine the satisfaction that comes from "catching the big one." The picture you've created doesn't need to be a summer scene - winter is a great time for fishing - ice fishing that is. Ice fishing is one of our most popular winter activities at both Cavanaugh Lake and Independence Lake. A fishing license is required and all Department of Natural Resources regulations are to be followed.
At Independence Lake some of the more common catches are Blue Gill, Perch, and Pike. Each year in February, Washtenaw County Parks is the sponsor of an Ice Fishing Derby, with prizes and raffle items awarded at the end of the contest.
