Controlled burns are done during the spring months in rain gardens and stormwater features throughout Washtenaw County. Burns encourage native plants to thrive and discourage unwanted invasive plants. We hire professional contractors to do the controlled burns. A burn plan is created for each site and submitted for approval by the local fire department. The burn will be under control at all times. If you have questions or would like to be notified the morning of a controlled burn that will be conducted near you, please contact Catie Wytychak at [email protected] or (734) 222-6813.
If you are interested in learning more about controlled burns, please attend this year's Burn Public Meeting that is hosted by the City of Ann Arbor's Natural Area Preservation (NAP).
