Monkeypox Information for Providers

CDC is urging healthcare providers in the U.S. to be alert for patients who have rash illnesses consistent with monkeypox, regardless of whether they have travel or specific risk factors for monkeypox and regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

Washtenaw County Health Department encourages local health care providers to conduct monkeypox testing when monkeypox is suspected. Health care providers conducting testing should wear the appropriate PPE and use sterile synthetic swabs to collect samples. All specimens should be sent through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Bureau of Laboratories.

The Washtenaw County Health Department (WCHD) is a regional monkeypox vaccine distribution hub. Other hubs include Detroit and Oakland, Kent, Kalamazoo, Ingham, Genesee, and Grand Traverse counties.

Local health departments and health care providers who want to request monkeypox vaccines from WCHD should complete this form and email it to biologics[at]
