Boards, Committees, & Commissions Resources

Welcome! Whether this is your first time serving on a board or you are an experienced board member, this webpage is a resource to provide an overview of the Washtenaw County boards, committees, and commissions process.

Washtenaw County is home to over 360,000 residents and the sixth largest county in Michigan. Washtenaw County residents are engaged with their community - there are over 200 seats appointed across nearly 60 boards, committees, commissions, subcommittees, and task forces.

County boards, committees, & commissions are generally created in three ways: 1) They are established under the Michigan Compiled Laws (MCL), 2) the Board of Commissioners creates them through an establishing resolution, or 3) the board is an external agency/partner board to Washtenaw County.

The Boards, Committees, & Commissions Handbook provides an broad overview of serving on a board, committee, or commission. This handbook covers topics including: agendas, minutes, the Open Meetings Act, quorum, meeting notices, and officers.

The Staff Liaison Contact List contains contact information for staff liaisons countywide. If you have any questions about a particular board or want to know more, reach out!
