Businesses who contract with Washtenaw County are subject to the County’s Responsible Contractor Policy. Under the Responsible Contractor Policy, contractors are required to:
- Abide by all relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including workplace safety and environmental laws.
- Abide by Washtenaw County’s Living Wage Ordinance.
- Not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, pregnancy, age, religion, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, height, weight, or disability.
- Abide by all the representations the contractor made during the bidding process.
- Charge the County fairly for the work that has been performed.
The Responsible Contractor Policy allows the County to recover money from contractors if they violate these terms. Whistleblowers who report violations may be able to obtain a share of the money recovered by the County. Whistleblowers are also protected against retaliation by their employers if they report a violation.
For more information about how to report a violation, please see Section VIII.B.3 of the Responsible Contractor Policy. You can also contact the Economic Justice Unit for more information about how to report.
