Home Toxics (Paint, Oil, Pesticides & More)

***Notice***

appointments required

Walk-ins without appointments are temporarily SUSPENDED. Due to an unprecedented increase in materials and appointments, we can no longer safely serve anyone without an appointment at this time. Unscheduled drop-offs without appointments will be turned away. All appointments are booked until late July. Please utilize our Saturday Collection Events instead on July 11th and 18th. If you need to get rid of materials on a faster timeline, our hotline can provide referrals to alternate services.

Due to a large amount of call volume for the Home Toxics Center, our response times are slightly delayed. We are working to return calls within 1-2 days.  Please leave a voicemail with your name and number.

New Safety Procedures:

  • Please wear a mask or face covering and remain in your vehicle.
  • Voluntary donations will be placed directly by residents into a safe - no change can be made.
  • Proceed directly to the back of the building where you can park in the appointment parking space, do not go into the building.

The Home Toxics Center is Washtenaw County’s Household Hazardous Waste Program.

There are two options for accessing the program:

  1. Weekday Drop-Offs - Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m., closed on holidays
  2. Saturday Collection Events - Select Saturdays, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. July open Saturdays: 7/11 and 7/18.

Closures are usually posted on our Facebook page, follow us for up-to-date information.

Virtual Donation Link - PayPal

In an effort to reduce our cash handling, we’ve added PayPal as a way to donate virtually. The Home Toxics Center provides a free service to residents. Voluntary donations go directly to our disposal costs. Enter your donation amount in the "price per item" field. Do not add a dollar sign ($) to your amount, or PayPal will return an invalid amount error. You can also choose "Pay with Debit or Credit Card" to donate without having to use or create a PayPal account.

The collection program is a free service for residents. We do accept donations, which go directly to the cost of disposal. Donations are important because our program is not supported by tax dollars. Events are held the first three Saturdays of the month, April through November, 9 a.m. to noon, except for holiday weekends. Check our calendar (right) for up-to-date information.

Volunteering

If you’re interested in keeping hazardous materials out of the environment, recycling, or public service, you’ll enjoy volunteering with us! Our Saturday collections utilize volunteers to check in customers and remove materials from their vehicles. Volunteers help us run efficiently and smoothly.
