Effective June 15, 2020 the Clerk/Register’s office is available to the public in-person by appointment, only, in order to allow us to serve the public while carefully adhering to social distancing guidelines designed to protect the health of the public and staff.

You may search for or register an Assumed Name or Co-Partnership (also known as a business name or a DBA) at the Washtenaw County Clerk/Register Vital Records office.

Limited partnerships, limited liability companies, and corporations are created by filing the appropriate documents with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, not at the County level.

Register an Assumed Name or Co-Partnership

The Washtenaw County Clerk/Register Vital Records office is prohibited by law from registering a business name that is the same as or similar to another name already on file.

Business names are valid for 5 years and may be renewed.

How to:

  1. Search the Washtenaw County Vital Records Self-Service Site to ensure the name is not already registered. 
  2. Review the Business Name Instruction and Information Document
  3. Complete the appropriate application:

Renew, Dissolve or Update an Assumed Name or Co-Partnership

If an Assumed Name was originally filed and signed by more than one party, all parties involved must sign the application to renew, dissolve or change it. 

A Co-Partnership may be renewed, dissolved or changed by submitting an application with the signature of any party on the original application.
