Commissioner Michelle Deatrick represents District 2, which includes the Townships of Northfield, Salem, and Webster; most of the Townships of Ann Arbor and Superior, and portions of the Cities of Ann Arbor and Dexter. For 2017, she is serving as Vice Chair of the Board of Commissioners.
Commissioner Deatrick is dedicated to a life of service to her community. She served as a Peace Corps high school teacher in Kenya, served on her Township's Burn Ordinance Committee, and is an advocate for small farms and the environment.
After working to build her family's successful technical consulting business, Michelle moved to Michigan in 2003 with her husband and two children. She lives on an 80-acre farm in Superior Township, and teaches writing privately and at the University of Michigan's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Previously, she was a Co-Founder of the Michigan Small Farm Council and worked for the presidential campaign of Senator Bernie Sanders, serving as Special Projects Director for Michigan.
Michelle earned a B.A. in English from Wesleyan University, a Master's degree in Education Policy and Administration from Harvard University, and a Master's degree in Creative Writing from the University of Michigan. She completed further graduate work in political science and statistics at Stanford University.
