2019 - 2022 Budget Planning
News & Updates on the Washtenaw County Budget
It is truly an honor to serve as your County Administrator. I have been in public service for over 20 years, 10 of which have been with Washtenaw County. I have spent most of my time at the County in Administration and Support Services, and prior to becoming the County’s Administrator in November of 2016, I served as the Director of Infrastructure Management. I have been a proud resident of Washtenaw County for 35 years and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else!
I am proud to be a part of an organization built upon Guiding Principles, Core Competencies and a vision of being world class. I plan to expand the knowledge and experience which has enabled this organization to become a world class service provider. I will uphold this legacy by reminding myself and my team, every day, why we’re here - steadfast dedication to serving the public and a commitment to excellence. These core values have helped us recover from challenging economic times and put us back on the path of success where we will continue to excel.
My focus for the near term of this organization will be on continued fiscal stability while providing the best possible services to our citizens. This includes working closely with our Community Mental Health Department to navigate through a changing structure while continuing to provide critical services to our community. I will also be diligently working with my team and the Board of Commissioners for possible solutions to our legacy costs and aging infrastructure.
Although our past budget struggles have been challenging, the County has responded well and is financially sustainable as reflected in the approval of our balanced quadrennial 2018 to 2021 budget, a AAA bond rating, a General Fund unreserved fund balance amount above the Board of Commissioners adopted policy, low debt ratio, and a modest year-end surplus for fiscal year 2017. We must ensure we continue to build upon this solid foundation as we move forward to maintain our fiscal stability.
