Breastfeeding Education & Support

The WIC program and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend breastfeeding for the first year of life. All WIC staff members receive breastfeeding training and support breastfeeding. Our WIC office also has Breastfeeding Peer Counselors, Certified Lactation Counselors, and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) who can provide education and support free of charge.

Breastfeeding Peer Counselors

The mother-to-mother peer counseling program is FREE and can help you to find answers to questions about feeding your baby. The counselors are moms who have breastfed their babies and are trained to help other moms. They can provide phone support, meet clients in the WIC clinic, help poor latch, engorgement, milk supply or sore nipples. They can provide support on using a breast pump. Pumps are free to WIC participants who qualify.
