Tuberculosis (TB) Skin Tests (TST)

TB skin tests are available. Please call 734-544-6700 for an appointment. 

Note: you must return to the clinic to have your test read within 48 to 72 hours of placement. Test results will not be valid after 72 hours.

Chest X-rays

  • Initial diagnostic x-rays are provided as part of the Washtenaw County Health Department TB Clinic evaluation.
  • Routine / Pre-employment x-rays are not available for the general public.

Additional Services

  • Consultation with the TB program physician
  • Consultation and oversight for the TB control activities of local facilities and practitioners
  • Medications provided at no cost to the client (we will collaborate with the client's medical insurance if applicable)
  • Public Health Nurse support for the completion of treatment by assessing client's needs and using incentives as appropriate, directly Observed Therapy (DOT) will be used for suspect and active TB cases.
  • Maintenance of TB registry and reporting to the State of all active cases, cases being treated for latent TB infection, and contacts of active cases

Mission

The Washtenaw County Health Department Tuberculosis (TB) Control Program has the legal responsibility for preventing and controlling TB in the community by:

  • Identifying and treating persons who have suspect/active TB and ensuring they complete appropriate therapy
  • Identifying and screening contacts of persons with TB to determine whether they have latent TB infection or active disease and providing appropriate treatment
  • Screening high-risk populations to detect persons with latent TB infection and providing appropriate treatment to prevent progression to disease

Latent Tuberculosis Infection Protocol

The Washtenaw County Health Department would like to share our protocol and algorithm for the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) for HIV-negative individuals who are 18 years or older. This protocol/algorithm is intended for the use by our local primary care providers based on guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF). This protocol/ algorithm is endorsed by the Tuberculosis Control Program of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). This resource is for informational and educational purposes and is not intended as a substitute for clinical judgment.
