Divorce

Divorces are handled in the Domestic Division of the Washtenaw County Trial Court. A principal component of the jurisdiction of this court is hearing and deciding issues related to the termination of marriages. These can be marriages with or without minor children.

Mediation

Judge Conlin, Judge O'Brien and Judge Owdziej require mediation at the time of filing for divorce. Mediation is a confidential, non-adversarial process in which the parties resolve their disputes with assistance of an impartial and neutral mediator. Please refer to the Order for Mediation (PDF) and Mediation Packet (PDF) as well as the Alternative Dispute Resolution Page for more information

Attorneys

Because of the complexity of most divorce cases where children or property are involved, it may be advisable to contact an attorney.
